Sanskrit Name:  पूर्व फाल्गुनी (Purva-Phalguni) comes from the Sanskrit words पूर्व (early) and फल्गु (spring season). One meaning of Purva-phalguni is “the early reddish one,” indicating the color and fresh life of new spring, sensuality, and a youthful nature.

Planetary Ruler:  Venus. The Ancient Romans worshipped Venus as the goddess of desire, sex, and sensuality. Venus is associated with material pleasures and prosperity, an enjoying spirit, and the arts.

Nakshatra Group:  Humanlike. Nakshatras are divided into three classes — monsters, humans, and gods. Purva-Phalguni is a humanlike nakshatra. Vedic Story - 

Bhaga was a priest at the fire sacrifice or Yadnya where Rudhra’s beloved wife Sati killed herself. Sati is the daughter of Daksha and Prasuthi. Sati got married to Rudhra but Daksha was not in favour of this wedding. Once Daksha organized a Yadnya and invited all the gods but Rudhra and Sati were excluded from the Daksha Yadnya. Sati still came and was insulted by Daksha. Due to this Sati got upset and she jumped in the Yadnya Kunda or fire pit.

When Rudhra got to know about this, he got very angry. He sent his incarnation created from just 2 of his hair to destroy the Yadnya. The incarnation was named Veerabhadhra. Veerabhadhra blinded the Bhaga for being a priest of the Yadnya.
